George Bernard Shaw on Vegetarianism

The average age of a meat-eater is 63. I am on the verge of 85 and still at work as hard as ever. I have lived quite long enough and am trying to die; but I simply cannot do it. A single beef-steak; would finish me; but I cannot bring myself to swallow it. I am oppressed with a dread of living forever. That is the only disadvantage of vegetarianism"

  1. This guy even looks like an idiot. This is what lack of technology will do to you. Make you delusional like that idiot was. He died so his theory was flawed. You can live long healthy life as an omnivore just as you can a vegetarian but without suppliments unlike vegans. I am an omnivore and in perfect health and take zero meds as the same with my whole family gene pool. Never needed nor taken suppliments in our lives either. I am now 82 and feel 20 yrs old. So much energy!!

    1. Congratulations. It was his life style. He didn't need any technology. He was an amazing writer. He said "Animals are my friends... and I don't eat my friends." He was great, noble and obviously better person than.

    4. Supplements?? My family has been vegan 2 yrs now. We don't need supplements. Even stopped taken daily multivitamins. Where do you think most vitamins and minerals come from?? Plant Food!! You are delusional and being lied to. The #1 consumers of supplements (and drugs) are sick meat-eaters. Look around you at all the obese, diabetic, ill people. Check out all the supplement ads on tv targeted at meat eaters. WHY? do dairy consumers need calcium supplements? Because dairy creates a acidic environment in your body that leeches the calcium directly out of your bones. B-12 supplements are the only thing recommended for vegans, BUT here's the catch..B-12 is recommended for EVERYONE regardless of diet because deficiencies are due to individual genetics NOT diet. Meat Eaters must take Calcium, a Multivitamin, an Immune Booster, Laxatives, Heartburn pills, maybe Diet Pills, a Cholesterol lowering drug, Diabetes drugs later on, and eventually Chemotherapy when they get cancer from Meat & Dairy. Most doctors (even The American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Association too) are recommending cancer patients immediately adopt a vegan diet to help fight the cancer and prevent it.

  2. I've gone raw vegan two months ago. I was skeptical at first, but the obvious benefits, more energy, great skin and body, have convinced me to keep at it. Now, I feel great and wish, just like veganism before it, I had started on this dietary regime a lot earlier.

  3. Animals aren't my friend, they are my food. I don't even like pets. My friends are human. He was a total idiot, nothing amazing about him. Only poor people say you don't need technology. I love technology and hate veganism.

  5. Hmmm, my mother was a vegetarian and only made it to 60 yrs. My father is an omnivore and is still going strong at 75.
Depends on your heritage on whether or not a protein based or carb based diet works best for your health.

    1. You do realize Shaw was saying this 60 yrs ago in 1950 when the average life expectancy was only 63!! So your comparison makes no sense. And I'm sure your 75 yr old dad is currently being kept alive by heart and diabetes meds (as a result of meat diet) which didn't exist in Shaw's time.

  6. The obvious ignorance of the human race never ceases to amaze me. How he lived, was his personal choice. Nobody is hard pressed to convert you to vegetarianism. If somebody chooses not to eat me (and all the hormones that come with it nowadays), then respect their decision, and leave them be.
